Election 2008, Another Reason to Give a Crap

In case you are one of those people who do not vote, here's another thing to consider:

Whoever is elected will probably get to appoint AT LEASE ONE new Supreme Court Justice. Right now we have Justices who are ages: 88, 75, 72, 72, 70, 69, 60, 58, & 53. In other words, retirement, health concerns, and death are issues that half of these individuals may be facing/considering/hoping for...

So.... why should you care?

Well these individuals have the final say on what is and what is not constitutional.

- Abortion
- Civil Rights
- Same-sex Marriage
- Laws passed by states (that fall under the constitution's reach)
- Laws passed by the federal government
- They interpret what the constitution says and means, if it is a living breathing document or if it should be interpreted from a strict constructionist viewpoint
- Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera
So slap some sense into yourself and go vote. OR slap that parent, grandparent, friend, relative, or co-worker who says, "There's no reason to vote, it doesn't matter."

McCain Deemed Too Old & Shaky to Stabilize Economy, Opts to Debate Instead

After initially calling off tonight's Presidential Debate in Mississippi in order to single-handedly save America's economy, John McCain has decided to show up after all.

When asked why he suddenly changed his position, McCain campaign staffers said that he, "Couldn't, for the life of him, remember why he had flown to Washington in the first place."

Arriving in Washington D.C., the 72-year-old McCain de-boarded the plane and shakily croaked, "Where am I? Who are you people!"

Once briefed on his whereabouts and the economic situation it became clear that the senior Senator from Arizona was clueless as to how to solve the problem. When asked what his plan would be, McCain muttered something about the benefits of replacing wooden nickels with "one cent" pennies and Vietnam.

Later in the day, during a bi-partisan economic forum, a shouting match broke out between John McCain and a coat rack when he mistook the object for being "one of them damn e-mail machines."

The episode ended when his internet advisor, Cindy McCain, was called into the room to calm the hot-tempered Senator down.

But Seriously: Watch the Debate Tonight!

A Whole Mess of News-tacular-ness

Religion
Women still count, well kind of...

Recently, a religious magazine called Gospel Today released an issue in which 5 female pastors are featured on the cover with their stories told inside. Well now, chains of Christian book stores are opting to pull the magazine off of their shelves because they do not believe that women should be allowed to function as priests.

One such company that is yanking the magazine from their holier-than-thou-art sexist shelves is the Christian chain called Lifeway. With more than 100 stores nationwide, this is a massive blockage of free speech and a blatant display of sexism by those linked to the church.

Is it legal to block this magazine in a privately owned religious store?

YES.

Does this reveal just how backwards, antiquated, narrow-minded and sexist religion can make people be?

...ummm... YES.

Q: Honestly, what is the church and its followers saying to the world if they will not let women be priests, if they will not approve of it, much less let articles written about it be seen?

A: You do not count, you are inherently unworthy because of differences in chromosomes, and you never will be good enough to serve in this capacity because this old, dusty, man-written book says so!

Ladies, time to start a revolution, or get the hell out!

Personally, I'd just leave the faith.

Faith: (1): belief and trust in and loyalty to God (2): belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion b (1): firm belief in something for which there is no proof (2): complete trust3: something that is believed especially with strong conviction ; especially : a system of religious beliefs

POLITICS
Oh, Congress is Having an Election Too?

Yah, we've all probably forgotten about it, but guess what!?!? We get to elect these idiots too!

The latest polls out on the Congressional elections show that the Democrats have a fairly sizable advantage over Republicans.

The latests survey asking voters who they will support in the upcoming elections for Congress show that 56% of adults support Democrats whereas only 42% support republicans (CNN.com).

A previous poll on the topic was taken a few days back that showed a much tighter race with Democrats only having a 49-46% lead over Republicans.

Some attribute this change to a waining in excitement over Sarah Palin being chosen as the VP for John McCain.

STUFF

Lindsay Lohan confirms what we already knew.

So it's official, Lindsay Lohan might be bisexual or even a lesbian! HEAVEN FORBID!

(OH yah, so is Clay Aiken, he officially came out today)

There's really not much more to say about this relationship in specific; however, I would like to take this opportunity to talk about a group that is often joked about.

Bisexual people should be taken seriously. It's not always "a phase" in the process of coming out as gay (although it can be). Honestly people, it's okay to be bisexual. There's a good chance that some of you reading this right now have felt as though you might be attracted to someone of the same sex at some point in your life. Unfortunately people today take the word bisexual to mean things like:

- Trying to get as much action as possible (being a slut)
- Trying to slowly come out in steps
- Being lost or confused

According to the American Psychological Association, there are different degrees of sexual orientation, and no kids, you cannot actually "pray the gay away" like Sarah Palin's church claims you can: READ ABOUT IT

P.S. I don't care if you aren't straight. If you need someone to talk to...

Get It Through Your Head: Obama Is NOT Muslim!

A friend posted the LINK to this article on Facebook in which we learn that there is an apparent increasing trend in people believing that Barack Obama is of the Muslim faith.

GUESS WHAT?... HE ISN'T!

- 10% of voters thought Barack was Muslim in March
- This increased to 12% in June
- The most current polls show that this number is now up to 13%

In case you are too lazy to read the article, here's a good quote to keep in your pocket:

"More ominously, a rising share — now 16 percent — say they aren’t sure about his religion because they’ve heard “different things” about it."

My question would be: Who's the driving force behind this incredibly inaccurate story?

My best guess would be: Most likely the crappy chain e-mails that I get from people that I know that tend to be of the right-wing religious persuasion.

Here's another question: Why does it matter what religion he is? Do certain people truly think that they are more correct than others?

Answer: It shouldn't matter, but yes, people truly believe that they have everything about their faith right. They can't prove it, they've been brainwashed to believe it since birth, but BY GOLLY THEY MUST BE RIGHT!

...because???

WELL BECAUSE THEY JUST ARE. That's all they know, that's what they base their lives on because that's what they were told to believe. No justification necessary.

I'm right, you're wrong... AND and and if you do not like Obama, why not just forward on some lies about him?

Even if it is against your faith to lie.

Hey, Come Meet MY Imaginary Friend!

Picture

According to a recent poll by the Baylor University Institute for Studies of Religion, 55% of Americans responded "YES" to the phrase: in my life... "I was protected from harm by a guardian angel."

What, exactly does "I was protected from harm by a guardian angel" mean? Did they appear and fight off an attacker? Did they swoop down and fly you off to safety? I am truly curious here.

I mean if 55% of people in this country have had their guardian angel save them on at least one occasion, then shouldn't this survey not seem surprising at all? Shouldn't more than half of your friends be like... "oh yah, that's totally true."

If this survey were really accurate, if guardian angels really existed, then I wouldn't be writing this blog right now. I would simply agree with the surveys findings. Heck, I would have said "Wow that's a waste of money, everyone knows about guardian angels being real, duh!" ... But that is not the case.

If anything, this survey is just another waste of money on religious beliefs. Just like when we build Multi million-dollar churches/temples/mosques/ shrines when the money could be better put to use for:

"A. Ending Poverty
B. Curing Diseases
C. Living In Peace, Loving With Passion, And Lowering The Cost Of Cable. " (Flying Spaghetti Monster).
D. Teaching about safe sex and providing condoms in Africa
E. Spending money to fix our broken education system
F. I
G. Could
H. Go
I. On
J. Forever...

When we get into tight situations, when we are scared, when we make it through something that is difficult, for some reason we seem to have a hard time giving OURSELVES any credit.

Be that credit for perseverance to get through a hard time. Be that credit given to our minds for creating a false reality, a self-created lie, or what-have-you to get through a life or death situation. It's a simple fact that our minds are amazing things. Our brains are complex with constant chemical reactions taking place--- our brains make things up, we can imagine things that are not even there. Many children have imaginary friends or are afraid of the dark. Even adults fear the dark because of horror movies and our IMAGINATIONS which lead us to think irrational thoughts. We make things up.

Stop thanking god and start thanking yourself.

Palin Running from...Punchline...Stuff: Confused?

Hello!

(There are links all over this post, click around and have fun!)

It's been a few days since our last post. I think I got a little sick of the political crap that was being kicked around the airwaves... BUT then I remembered that we can talk about R-P-M-and even S!

Religion: I went to the planetarium last Friday with Kyle and learned more about our existence and science. I am even more of an atheist now than ever. The bible is a boring joke compared to reality. (Sorry if you are offended... wait... no....not sorry: our blog, our opinions, just try to stop your eyes from taking in the info and your brain from processing it and you should be just fine).

Politics: This investigation in Alaska as to why Palin fired some guy for not firing her brother-in-law after he divorced her sister (there is an ongoing custody battle with this: kinda hard to get the kids when you don't have a job, right?) is still going on. WHY IS PALIN REFUSING TO COOPERATE? If you have nothing to hide... then what's the dealio? Right?

Then there are claims that somehow(... because he's the Magical Savior from Jesusland...) Obama got his campaign members to be part of the probe... hell they might even be RUNNING the investigation! UHHHH WHAT? Yah that doesn't make any sense. I'm sure that lawmakers, the police and judges are like, "oh, let's just step aside and let the Obama camp run this thing..."

Maybe this investigation will be part of the "October surprise" that every election cycle hopes for (at least the media does). I say: If you have nothing to hide, then what's the problem?

Music: The band Punchline released a new cd on September 16th called "Just Say Yes." Go out, buy it, buy all of their cd's actually. Then listen to them and love them. Right Meeeoowww!

Stuff: Hmmm.... what falls under the "stuff" category?....

Well ACCORDING TO MERRIAM-WEBSTER.COM pretty much everything!

How about personal life stories? No? Well too bad!: This weekend I got my lip pierced again and finally got my tattoo (no I don't have any pictures of the tattoo, it's on my back, so I would need an accomplice). Last night I went out to a bunch of gay bars with Kevin and Clinton, they did karaoke and I went to bed waaay too late to be at work right now.

okay, you people stay classy, VOTE on polls on the right --->

HOLY CRAP WE ARE BEING LIED TO

In case reader had not yet been made aware: every day on the radio, on television, at every political convention, and in almost every campaign advertisement.... WE ARE BEING LIED TO!

It's ridiculous that we have to endure this crap from both campaigns, but unless you live under a rock that doesn't have cable or wireless internet, you are going to see it.

Good news though, before you and I turn around and further disseminate these lies, we can do a little research of our own.

If something sounds shady, confusing, or just incredibly wrong... why not check?

Try: FactCheck.org
- Read more than one news source. I like BBC, CNN, FOX, and a mix of others to help me figure out what the REAL story is.

That first website is more than worthy of a few minutes of your time every day, or at least once a week.

Bottom line: We Are Being Lied To, let's at least hold ourselves to higher standards by searching for real answers.

Polls for McCain, Electoral votes for Obama

story:

A recent CNN poll of polls consisting of an average of poll
s
(from: CNN (Sept. 5-7), ABC/Washington Post (Sept. 5-7), CBS (Sept. 5-7), Gallup (Sept. 5-7) and Diageo/Hotline (Sept. 5-7)) shows that John McCain is ahead of Barack Obama 47% to 45%.

Yet, as we know, a majority national vote doesn't equate to winning an election ( See Al Gore v. George Bush in 2000).

Personally, I have always thought that we should abolish the electoral college and switch to a majority wins system, you know, like a true democracy.

So why am I writing this? Why should you care?

Well as of right now, according to various electoral college maps of the country, Barack Obama has approximately 243 electoral college votes that are either certain or likely to go his way. John McCain has 189 e.c. votes in his column.

I wonder if, once again, we will see an election won by someone who did not receive the majority of the votes.  My wanting of a more true democracy would be upset, but if Barack were to be the winner, I don't think I would care nearly as much (yes, that's a double standard, we all have them).

It looks like the swing states of Florida (27 votes), Ohio (20), Michigan (17), Virginia (13), Missouri (11), Colorado (9), Nevada (5), and New Hampshire (4) will decide with their remaining electoral college votes.

Colbert's DNA, Outer Space Meet at Last!

It's true, Stephen Colbert's DNA is being sent to the International Space Station.

The DNA is being taken to outer space by Richard Garriot, a civilian, who is rich enough to make such an exploit. The Colbert DNA is being put into a time capsule of human DNA.

Just think, in the future, foreign life forms might find this DNA and be able to create a clone of Stephen Colbert. Sure he wouldn't be the same person with the same personality or any memory of what the planet named Earth was like, but it's kind of cool, right?

Or are we wasting money on things like: shooting some comedian's (yes a very funny comedian) DNA into outer space when we could see people with tons of money doing something worth while...

What do you think?

Would the Real Kim Jong Il Please Stand Up?

Unless you are dead... because that would be kinda creepy...

Apparently there are legitimate allegations circling saying that Kim Jong Il might have died in 2003 and is being replaced by one, or even several look-a-likes.

CLICK ME to look at pictures of him

As the story goes, Kim Jong Il was fearing assassination and set up several look-a-likes to make appearances and speeches for him. Now it seems that the former leader of North Korea may have died in 2003 from diabetes and these other people have been filling in for him.

very interesting...

Palin's Church: Pray the Gay Away

This is just another example of religion and professional research not matching up. Palin's Church truly believes that you can pray to "god" and that he can make you straight. I had tried from age 12 to 19, it doesn't work, it's a crock of sh*t.

Here's what the American Psychology Association (APA) says:

Q: What about therapy intended to change sexual orientation from gay to straight?

All major national mental health organizations have officially expressed concerns about therapies promoted to modify sexual orientation. To date, there has been no scientifically adequate research to show that therapy aimed at changing sexual orientation (sometimes called reparative or conversion therapy) is safe or effective.

Furthermore, it seems likely that the promotion of change therapies reinforces stereotypes and contributes to a negative climate for lesbian, gay, and bisexual persons. This appears to be especially likely for lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals who grow up in more conservative religious settings.

Helpful responses of a therapist treating an individual who is troubled about her or his samesex attractions include helping that person actively cope with social prejudices against homosexuality, successfully resolve issues associated with and resulting from internal conflicts, and actively lead a happy and satisfying life.

Mental health professional organizations call on their members to respect a person’s (client’s) right to selfdetermination; be sensitive to the client’s race, culture, ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, language, and disability status when working with that client; and eliminate biases based on these factors."

The Following is an article written by Wayne Bessen of TruthWinsOut.org.
Associated PressSept. 5, 2008

VP Candidate Has Not Yet Expressed Views On 'Pray Away the Gay Movement'

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Gov. Sarah Palin's church is promoting a conference that promises to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer."You'll be encouraged by the power of God's love and His desire to transform the lives of those impacted by homosexuality," according to the insert in the bulletin of the Wasilla Bible Church, where Palin has prayed since she was a child.

Palin's conservative Christian views have energized that part of the GOP electorate, which was lukewarm to John McCain's candidacy before he named her as his vice presidential choice. She is staunchly anti-abortion, opposing exceptions for rape and incest, and opposes gay marriage and spousal rights for gay couples.Focus on the Family, a national Christian fundamentalist organization, has scheduled the "Love Won Out" Conference for Sept. 13 in Anchorage, about 30 miles from Wasilla.

Palin, campaigning with McCain in the Midwest on Friday, has not publicly expressed a view on the so-called "pray away the gay" movement. Larry Kroon, senior pastor at Palin's church, was not available to discuss the matter Friday, said a church worker who declined to give her name.

Gay activists in Alaska said Palin has not worked actively against their interests, but early in her administration she supported a bill to overrule a court decision to block state benefits for gay partners of public employees. At the time, less than one-half of 1 percent of state employees had applied for the benefits, which were ordered by a 2005 ruling by the Alaska Supreme Court.

Palin reversed her position and vetoed the bill after the state attorney general said it was unconstitutional. But her reluctant support didn't win fans among Alaska's gay population, said Scott Turner, a gay activist in Anchorage.

"Less than 1 percent of state employees would even apply for benefits, so why make a big deal out of such a small number?" he said.

"I think gay Republicans are going to run away" if Palin supports efforts like the prayers to convert gays, said Wayne Besen, founder of the New York-based Truth Wins Out, a gay rights advocacy group. Besen called on Palin to publicly express her views now that she's a vice presidential nominee."People are looking at Sarah Palin as someone who might feasibly be in the White House," he said.

McCain-Palin: The Anti-Homosexual Ticket

Hate Crimes- While in the Senate, John McCain voted NO on extending the definition of hate crimes to include sexual orientation.

Job Protection- John McCain voted NO on prohibiting job discrimination based upon sexual orientation.

Military- McCain: "We have the best-trained, most professional, best-equipped, most efficient, most wonderful military in the history of this country, and I'm proud of every one of them.  So I think it would be a terrific mistake to even reopen the issue.  The policy is working.  And I am convinced that that's the way we can maintain this greatest military.  Let's not tamper with them"
- 2007 GOP Debate, St. Anslem College

California Same-sex Marriage:  McCain wants California to overturn their Supreme Court's ruling and put a ban on same-sex marriages..."I support the efforts of the people of California to recognize marriage as a unique institution between a man and a woman, just as we did in my home state of Arizona."

SARAH PALIN

Supporters of Palin will try to say that she vetoed a bill that would have gotten rid of partnership benefits for homosexual state employees, hence, she must be pro-gay, right?

WRONG

Palin vetoed the bill only after the Alaska Supreme Court ruled that a bill ridding same-sex partners of state employee benefits would be unconstitutional.  She openly and publicly disagreed with the court ruling and now supports a referendum to have the state constitution modified JUST SO SHE CAN OVERTURN THE Supreme Court of Alaska's ruling!
